History
In late 1925, Assam varietal plants were brought to Taiwan from Japan during their occupation of Taiwan to attempt to start black tea production in Yuchih Township.[1]
Production was successful, prompting the founding of a tea research facility, the Mountain Tea Research and Extension Station, at Yongshe Village on Maolan Mountain. A short hike from the main touristed areas of Sun Moon Lake, the research facility remains active and offers tours during tea season.
