Overview
Bai Hao, also known as Oriental Beauty, is produced in Hsinchu and Miaoli, Taiwan and is generally considered the most highly oxidized of the Taiwanese oolongs, estimated at around 70% oxidation. Bai Hao tea is harvested just after it is bitten by the Tea Jassid, a small leafhopper, that starts the oxidation process while the leaf is still growing on the plant. Because the farmers depend on the Tea Jassid to make the tea, consumers often intuit that Bai Hao is subjected to little or no insecticide. The leaves produce a red liquor.
