Overview
These are simple mechanical scales with numbers physically stamped or marked on the scale.
Function
In the simplest forms, a balanced lever supports a load on one end and a dial with numbers on the other.
The pointer remains fixed, but when weight is applied to the lever, the corresponding number dial moves in relation to the pointer.
Advantages
These scales are very inexpensive, readily available, and do not depend on a power source.
They are small and quite portable.
Disadvantages
Although technically precise enough for tea measurement, they are not as precise as digital scales.
They are somewhat easier to lose than digital scales due to smaller size.
If they require calibration, a bit of expertise or genuine cleverness is required to repair them or compensate.
